Steve lived on and off for 8 years in Galicia, Spain. While there, he was commissioned by Galician Television (TVG) to make A Worker of the 20th Century (Un Traballador do Seculo XX). Made in the local Galician language, it tells the story of a communist leaning local dock worker (Manuel Barros) in the years of the Franco dictatorship.  Manuel grew up in poverty, was forced to fight for Franco, and worked in shipbuilding all his life. 

On retirement his son Carlos persuaded his father to write his memoirs. This evocative film uses excerpts from the memoir and interviews with family members to give a haunting picture of life under Franco (including Carlos himself being arrested and tortured).
